It was -5 degrees as we drove through Idaho City, but the temp came up to 20 degrees by the time we go to the top of Mores Creek Summit. We headed up a snow mobile track (watched as a lady got her machine stuck as she tried climbing up through the snow shoot coming off the highway). After a mile or so the sound of the machines faded and we were on our own.
The first run down proved that our timing was good and the powder was great. I crashed several times on our first run, mostly because I’m not use to skiing in good powder, but I can blame at least the first crash on the fact I forgot to switch my boots into ski mode.
I was skinning in my old skins because I sent my Black Diamonds back to the factory because of the black mesh problem. These skins don’t grab as well so I had a little extra challenge turning the steep corners, but I made it a point not to complain or come up with excuses. The fact of the matter is I wasn’t quite as good at climbing as Steve or Rick who have been BC skiing many more years than I. So they ended up waiting a bit for me on the climbs. But they were kind enough do deny that.
