Mt. Hood

Mount Hood is not only the highest peak in Oregon, it is also (by some accounts) the second most climbed mountain in the world, second only to Mt. Fujiyama in Japan.  Mt. Hood last erupted in 1907, but it steadily vents steam from numerous fumaroles around Crater Rock.  At the base of the only year-round ski area in North America lies the historic Timberline Lodge featured in the movie "The Shining".
